PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: 29 July 2025
Introduction
Welcome to Connectee Education! We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your personal information with care and transparency. This Privacy Policy explains in clear, friendly language how we collect, use, share, and protect your data when you use the Connectee platform. It applies to all users of Connectee – including Tutors/Professors and Parents/Students – so everyone can understand our practices. We follow the principles of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in all our data handling, meaning we only collect what we need, use it lawfully, keep it secure, and stay transparent with you.
Who We Are:Connectee Education (“Connectee”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is a digital marketplace that connects families (Parents/Guardians and Students) with independent educators (Tutors/Professors) for personalized learning. When you use Connectee, you are trusting us with personal information about yourself (or your child, if you are a parent), and we take that responsibility seriously. By using our platform, you agree to this Privacy Policy and the data practices it describes. If you have any questions, you can always contact us at the email provided in the “Contact Us” section below.
Minors:Connectee is intended for adults or minors under adult supervision. If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must create your account and agree to this Privacy Policy on your behalf. We rely on the parent/guardian’s consent to process a child’s personal data. We only collect and use a child’s information (such as name, age, tutoring records) as needed to provide our services, and we do not collect sensitive information unless necessary for tutoring (for example, a learning disability disclosed to help tailor the lessons, which we treat as highly confidential). Parents can contact us at any time to ask about or request deletion of their child’s information.
Tutors as Independent Data Controllers: This policy covers how Connectee itself handles your data. Tutors, however, are independent professionals, not employees of Connectee. When a Tutor receives personal information about a student or parent through our platform (for example, a student’s name, contact details, or learning needs), the Tutor becomes an independent data controller of that information for the purposes of providing tutoring services. In simple terms, Tutors are expected to manage and protect student data in line with privacy laws and this policy. They should only use student personal data for tutoring, keep it confidential and secure, and not use it for anything unrelated (such as marketing their own services outside Connectee) without consent. If a parent or student asks a Tutor to delete or update information the Tutor has received, the Tutor should honour that request (except for information the Tutor might need to keep for legal reasons). Connectee’s Terms require Tutors to handle student data responsibly, but this Privacy Policy focuses mainly on what Connectee does with personal data. We include this note so that all users understand that both Connectee and Tutors have roles in protecting privacy.
` Data We Collect
We collect personal data only as necessary to provide our services and ensure a great experience for all users. Here are the categories of information we gather:
- Account Information:When you create an account, we ask for basic details such as your name, email address, and contact information. Parents/Students may also provide a phone number, and for students we might ask for the student’s first name, age, grade level, and learning goals or subjects of interest. Tutors provide information for their profiles, such as their name, professional qualifications, biography, photo, subjects taught, and possibly proof of identity or credentials for verification purposes. All users choose a password (which is stored securely in encrypted form).
- Profile and Education Details:Tutors/Professors may provide additional profile details like their education background, teaching experience, certifications, hourly rates, availability schedule, and other information to describe their services. Students or Parents might optionally provide details about the student’s learning preferences or any special needs to help Tutors prepare personalized lessons. Providing such additional information is up to you, but it can help improve the tutoring experience.
- Session and Booking Information:We collect information related to tutoring sessions you schedule or conduct through the platform. This includes session dates and times, the subject or course, session duration, and any messages or notes associated with the booking (for example, a message from a parent to a tutor about what the student needs help with). We keep a history of your bookings and sessions on Connectee, so you can track past lessons and so we can provide customer support or address any issues that arise. If sessions are conducted through an online classroom or video tool provided by our platform, we may process data from that session (e.g. chat transcripts or, if recordings are enabled with consent, video/audio recordings of the lesson). Note: We will always ask for consent before recording any tutoring session, and recordings (if any) are stored securely and only used for purposes you consented to (such as quality assurance or reviewing a dispute).
- Communications:We collect and store communications that occur through our platform. For example, when Parents/Students and Tutors message each other using Connectee’s messaging system, those messages are saved. This helps us facilitate the tutoring arrangements and allows you to review conversation history. It also enables us to monitor for spam or inappropriate content to keep the community safe. If you communicate with us, we will collect the information you choose to give us (such as details of your support question or feedback). We may also keep records of communications and responses for training and quality assurance, and to help resolve any future issues.
- Payment Information:If you make or receive payments through Connectee, we collect information needed to process those payments. For Parents paying for tutoring sessions, this means we (or our payment processor) collect payment details like your credit/debit card information or other payment method details. For security, Connectee uses a certified third-party payment processor to handle your payment transactions, so your sensitive payment card data is transmitted directly to them and not stored on our servers. We may store non-sensitive details like the last four digits of your card, card type, or payment timestamps for record-keeping, and we keep records of transactions (amounts, dates, services purchased). For Tutors, we collect information needed to send you earnings (for example, your bank account or PayPal email for payouts, and any necessary tax information if applicable). All payment processing is done securely and in compliance with applicable standards.
- Reviews and Feedback:If you submit a review of a Tutor or provide feedback on a session, we collect that information. Reviews (along with your displayed name or initials) may be shared publicly on tutor profiles to inform other users. Any feedback you send privately to Connectee (for example, suggestions or bug reports) is used internally to improve our service.
- Files and Content You Provide:Any files or materials you upload or share via the platform (for instance, a homework file for the tutor to review, or lesson resources a tutor shares with a student) are collected and stored so that the intended recipients can access them. We treat these files as part of your personal (or student’s) data and protect them accordingly. Only you, the people you share them with (e.g. your tutor or student), and authorized Connectee personnel (if necessary for support or safety) will have access to these files.
- Usage Data and Technical Information:Like many online services, we automatically collect some data about how you use our platform. This includes technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers when you access Connectee. We also log usage details like when you log in, pages or profiles you visit, features you use, clicks and interactions, and so on. This information helps us secure the platform, prevent fraud, and understand what features are useful to users. We may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect some of this data. Additionally, we keep logs of errors or crashes to debug and maintain a smooth service. While this technical data does not directly identify you in our systems, it might be linked to your account for functionality (for example, keeping you logged in or remembering preferences).
We collect most of this information directly from you when you fill out forms or use our services. In some cases, we may derive data or receive it from third parties. We aim to limit our data collection to only what is necessary to provide and improve Connectee’s services.
How We Use Your Data
We use personal data for the following purposes, and we always ensure we have a proper legal basis for each use:
- Providing and Improving the Service:First and foremost, we use your information to operate Connectee and deliver the services you expect. This includes using your data to create and manage your account, allow you to search or advertise tutoring services, and enable Parents and Tutors to find and communicate with each other. For example, if you are a Parent, we will use the information you provide about your student’s needs to match you with Tutors who teach that subject or age group. We might show a Tutor some of the student’s basic information (like first name, age, subject needed, and general goals) in a tutoring request so the Tutor can decide if they can help. We use Tutors’ profile information to display their listings to prospective students. We also use data to improve and personalize the platform. All such processing is done in accordance with GDPR principles, meaning we have a lawful basis (like performance of the contract or legitimate interest) and we balance it with your privacy rights.
- Scheduling Sessions and Managing Bookings:We use the information you provide about your availability, time zone, and scheduled session times to coordinate between Parents and Tutors. For example, when a Parent requests a session at a certain time, the platform uses the Tutor’s provided schedule to confirm the booking. We send reminders or notifications about upcoming sessions to both students and tutors (for instance, an email or app notification with the lesson time and date).
- Facilitating Payments:We use personal data to process payments for tutoring sessions and platform fees. When you pay for a lesson, we use the payment details you provided to charge your card (through our secure payment partner) and we use your account info to generate an invoice or receipt. For tutors, we use your payout information to send your earnings to you. We keep records of these transactions for billing history, accounting, and to handle any payment disputes or refunds. Payment data is handled securely and only by authorized parties.
- Communication:We use your contact information (email address and/or phone number, if provided) to communicate with you and manage your account. This includes sending service-related emails or messages for things like account confirmation, booking confirmations, session reminders, cancellation notices, and updates about our platform changes or policies. For example, after you book a session, we will email you the confirmation and details. We may also send you notifications within the platform (and via email) for messages you receive or other important events. If you contact our support team, we will use your information to respond to you and resolve any issues. We might also contact you to ask for feedback after a session or to provide tips on using Connectee (these are optional). We do not use your phone number for marketing calls or texts without your consent: primarily, phone numbers (if collected) are used for verification and for Tutors and Parents to connect only after a booking is confirmed for a session.
- Marketing and Newsletters (Opt-In):We will not spam you. We may offer occasional newsletters, promotional emails, or surveys to enhance your Connectee experience – but we will only send you marketing communications if you have opted in to receive them. For example, if you subscribe to our newsletter, we might send study tips or info about new features or promotions on Connectee. You can choose to receive or not receive these optional communications. If at any time you prefer not to get such emails, you can unsubscribe using the link provided in the email or by adjusting your account settings. Even if you opt out of marketing messages, you will still receive essential service and transaction-related communications (like booking confirmations or important account notices) since those are necessary for using the platform.
- Safety, Trust, and Support:We use data to keep Connectee safe, trustworthy, and reliable. This includes processing data for fraud prevention, security monitoring, and policy enforcement. For example, we may analyse login activity and messages to detect suspicious behaviour (such as detecting if someone may be spamming others or attempting to misuse the platform). We might use automated systems to screen communications for red flags (like exchange of contact information before booking, which our system masks for safety, or inappropriate language) in order to prevent scams or abuse. If we become aware of a potential issue (like a policy violation or safety concern), we may review the relevant data (such as user profile or message history) to investigate and address the issue. Additionally, to protect payments, we might use data to verify that transactions are legitimate (for instance, our payment processor might use fraud detection systems). When you or another user reports a problem via our support channels, we will use relevant data (booking info, messages, etc.) to troubleshoot and assist. All these activities are done to fulfil our obligations to provide a secure platform and are based on our legitimate interest in maintaining a safe service (while ensuring we respect your rights and freedoms).
- Analytics and Product Improvement:We want to make Connectee better over time. Internally, we may use data like usage logs, feedback, and aggregate user behaviour to understand how the platform is performing and what features are useful. For example, we might look at data on how many sessions are booked per week, which features are used most, or how users navigate the site, in order to identify improvements. This analysis helps us fix bugs, optimize the user interface, and make informed decisions about new features or services. Wherever possible, we use this information in an aggregated or pseudonymized form (not directly tied to your name) for analysis, so we learn general trends without needing to look at individual profiles. This is part of our legitimate interests to run an effective service, and it does not negatively impact your privacy as it is not used to make any decisions about you personally beyond improving your experience.
- Legal Compliance:In some cases, we need to use your data to comply with legal obligations. For example, we may process and retain certain information for tax and accounting purposes (such as keeping payment records to report income, or invoices for paid services). If law enforcement or a regulatory authority lawfully requires us to provide certain data (for instance, as part of an investigation), we may process data for that purpose. Also, if you exercise your data protection rights (like requesting a copy of your data or deletion), we will use your information to fulfil those requests as required by law. We also process personal data as needed to meet GDPR requirements.
Legal Bases for Processing
Depending on the situation, we rely on different legal grounds to justify the processing of personal data:
- Performance of the Contract:much of our data use is to provide the services you’ve asked for (when you agree to our Terms, a contract is formed, and processing your data to provide tutoring matches, sessions, and payments is necessary for that contract).
- Consent:for certain activities like sending optional marketing emails or processing special categories of data (e.g. health information about a learning disability), we will only do so with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Legitimate Interests:we use data to improve our services, ensure security, and run our business effectively in ways that do not override your rights (for instance, analysing usage to improve the platform, or preventing fraud; we carefully consider and balance our interests with your privacy).
- Legal Obligation:when we need to process or retain data to comply with laws (like financial recordkeeping or responding to lawful requests). If you have questions about the specific legal basis for any particular use of your data, feel free to contact us.
We will never use your personal data for purposes that are not compatible with the ones described above without asking for your permission or updating you. We do not engage in any kind of automated decision-making or profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects on you – any suggestions or matches (like showing you recommended tutors or students) are based on your provided preferences and our algorithms, but human choices are always involved (for instance, you choose which tutor to contact, and tutors choose which students to accept). If this ever changes, we will update this policy and get consent if required.
How We Share Your Data
We value your trust, and part of that is being clear about when we share your personal information and with whom. The summary is: we do not sell or rent your personal data to third parties for their own marketing. We only share information in a few necessary scenarios to run our platform and provide services, or when we are legally required to do so. These scenarios are described below:
- Sharing with Service Providers (Third-Party Processors):We use trusted third-party companies to help us operate Connectee and deliver our services to you. These providers only receive the information necessary for them to perform their specific services on our behalf, and they are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only for our specified purposes. Examples of service providers we work with include:
- Payment Processors:As mentioned, we partner with payment processing companies to handle credit card transactions and other payment methods. These processors get the relevant billing information to charge or pay you (such as your name, payment card details or bank account for payouts, billing address if required, and the transaction amount). They process payments securely in compliance with payment industry standards.
- Email and SMS Services:We may use services to send out emails or text messages on our behalf (for things like verification codes, booking notifications, or newsletters if you subscribed). These services would receive your contact information and the content of the message (e.g. email text) needed to deliver the communication to you.
- Hosting and IT Infrastructure:Connectee is an online platform, so we use cloud hosting providers and other IT infrastructure services to store data and keep the site/app running. Personal data is stored on secure servers provided by these companies. They technically have access to the data we store on their systems, but they are not allowed to use it for any purpose other than providing us with their storage/hosting service.
- Analytics and Performance Tools:We use analytics tools to collect information about how users interact with our website. This helps us understand traffic and usage patterns. These tools may use cookies or similar identifiers. The information shared is typically pseudonymous (like device IDs or IP addresses) and focused on usage stats; we do not share your name or contact details with analytics providers.
- Communication and Classroom Tools:If Connectee integrates any third-party video conferencing or chat tools for online lessons, we will share the minimum information required for you to use those tools. For instance, if we use a video platform for online tutoring sessions, we might need to provide your name or email to create the meeting invite. Similarly, if we have a calendar integration, we would sync session times with that calendar provider. These tools will have their own privacy protections and we ensure any we use are reputable.
- Customer Support Systems:We may use a CRM or support ticketing software to manage support inquiries. If you contact us, your request and contact info may be recorded in such a system, which is operated by a third-party provider under strict privacy terms. This helps us track and respond to your issue effectively.
Rest assured, we carefully vet our service providers and choose ones that meet high data protection standards. We only share with them what they truly need to serve us and you. These third parties are prohibited from using your information for their own purposes and must delete or return your data to us when it’s no longer needed for the service.
- Legal Requirements and Protection:We may disclose personal data when required to do so by law or if such action is necessary to (a) comply with a legal obligation or valid legal process; (b) enforce our Terms of Service or other agreements; (c) address fraud, security, or technical issues; or (d) protect the rights, property, or safety of Connectee, our users, or the public.
- Business Transfers:If Connectee is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of all or some of its assets, your personal data could be transferred to the acquiring or succeeding company as part of that transaction. The new entity would continue to honour the commitments we’ve made in this Privacy Policy regarding your personal information, unless you’re notified otherwise and provided a chance to consent or opt-out. We would inform users of any such change in ownership or control of their personal data, as required by law.
- With Your Consent or At Your Direction:In any other situation not covered above, we will ask for your consent before sharing your personal data with third parties. For instance, if in the future there is an option to share a testimonial with your name on our public site, we would only do that if you agreed. Or if you specifically request that we share data with a third party, we would do so only with your direction and consent.
We do not sell your personal data to advertisers or unrelated parties. Any sharing is either with service providers working on our behalf, with other users as part of the core service, or for legal compliance as described.
International Data Transfers
Connectee is established in Portugal and operates primarily in the EU. We make an effort to ensure that your personal data remains within the EEA. In the event of an International Data Transfer, we ensure it is protected according to GDPR standards. If we transfer personal data out of the EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses approved by the EU, or transferring to countries with adequate data protection laws, to ensure your rights and protections travel with your data. You can contact us if you have questions about international data transfers.
Cookies and Tracking
Like most websites and apps, Connectee uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to provide and improve our service. Cookies are small text files placed on your device that help us remember who you are and provide certain features. Here’s how we use them in plain terms:
- Essential Cookies:Some cookies are necessary for Connectee to work properly. For example, when you log in, a cookie helps keep you logged in as you navigate through pages so you don’t have to re-enter your password on every click. Cookies also help us remember your preferences (such as language choice or other settings) to make your experience smoother. These are first-party cookies (set by Connectee) and are only used for our site’s functionality.
- Analytics Cookies:We use cookies (and similar tools like scripts or pixel tags) to understand how users use our platform. These tracking tools collect information like which pages you visited, how long you stayed, which links you clicked, and if you encountered errors. We use this information to analyze user behavior in aggregate, which helps us improve the content and layout of our site. For example, cookies might tell us that many users have trouble finding the “Schedule” button, which would signal us to make it more visible. We typically use third-party analytics services to assist with this, which means these third-party providers set their own cookies to collect usage information on our behalf. The data collected through analytics cookies does not include your name, email, or any direct contact info; it is mainly information about your device and browsing patterns.
- No Third-Party Advertising Cookies:Connectee is not an advertising-supported service, and we do not serve third-party ads that track you. Therefore, we generally do not use advertising cookies that profile you for ad targeting. If this ever changes, we will update this policy and obtain any necessary consent. Our use of cookies is primarily to run the platform and understand usage, not to track you across other sites.
- Similar Technologies:In addition to cookies, we might use local storage or browser memory to store certain data (for example, caching your preferences), and web beacons or pixel tags in emails to know if you opened a message (helps us figure out if our communications are useful). These technologies function similarly to cookies in that they help us gather the information needed for the features or insights described above.
Your Choices:When you first visit our site, you may be given a notice about our use of cookies. We will provide you the option to accept or reject non-essential cookies (like analytics cookies) via a cookie consent banner. Regardless, you have the ability to control cookies through your browser settings. Please note, if you disable or delete cookies, some features of Connectee might not function properly: for example, you might need to log in again each time or some preferences may not be saved. If you do nothing and continue to use our site, we’ll assume we have your consent to use cookies as described here.
Data Security and Retention
We understand that the security of your personal data is important. Connectee uses a variety of measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no website or Internet transmission is completely secure, so we want to be transparent about how we safeguard your data and what you can do as well.
- How We Protect Your Data
- Encryption:We employ encryption to protect data in transit and at rest. This means that the information you provide on our site is encrypted using HTTPS (so that if someone intercepted your communications, they would be unreadable). Sensitive data stored in our databases is encrypted or hashed. For instance, passwords are stored in a hashed form (not in plain text), and any payment information that we must store (like transaction IDs or last4 of a card) is also protected.
- Access Controls:We limit access to personal data to only those employees, contractors, or service providers who need that access to perform their job (for example, customer support staff can view your account details to help you, but a marketing staffer would not need to). Our team is trained on the importance of confidentiality and privacy. All access to personal data is logged and subject to oversight.
- Secure Infrastructure:We use reputable cloud hosting with strong security practices. Our servers are kept up-to-date with security patches, and we utilize firewalls and monitoring to guard against external attacks. We also regularly back up data to prevent loss. Where possible, personal data is segregated to reduce risk.
- Testing and Best Practices:We periodically test our website and systems for vulnerabilities (sometimes via third-party security audits or penetration tests) to ensure our defences remain strong. We follow industry best practices for application security in our code, and we maintain an incident response plan in case of any security issue.
- Personal Data Minimization:By only collecting data we need, we naturally reduce the amount of information stored at any time, which is a security advantage.
- Monitoring:Our systems have logging and monitoring that alert us to unusual patterns (like multiple failed login attempts) so we can respond to potential threats quickly. If we detect an issue that could pose a risk to user data, we act swiftly to mitigate it.
While we work hard to protect the platform, you also play a role in keeping your data safe. We encourage you to choose a strong, unique password for your Connectee account and keep it secret (don’t share it with others). If you believe someone has obtained your password or unauthorized access has occurred, please change your password immediately and notify us. Also, be cautious about the information you share in your profile or communications: avoid sharing unnecessary sensitive details. We designed the platform so that you don’t have to share contact details until it’s necessary, and we mask certain data for your privacy. For example, when messaging before a booking, personal contact data is hidden to encourage keeping communications on the platform, where we have safety measures like spam filtering. Using our on-platform tools (instead of external channels) also means we can better protect your interactions.
Despite all our efforts, it is important to note that no system can be guaranteed 100% secure against every threat. However, we continuously update and improve our security practices to meet or exceed industry standards. In the unlikely event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law, and we will take steps to mitigate any harm.
- How Long We Keep Your Data
We retain personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this policy, or as required by law. The retention period can vary depending on the type of data and our obligations:
- Active Account Data:If you have an account with Connectee, we will keep the information in your account profile, your session history, communications, and other data you have provided for as long as your account remains active. This allows us to provide the service to you continuously.
- Account Deletion:If you choose to delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your personal information from our active databases. This process generally includes deleting profile information, login credentials, and personal details so that you can no longer be identified in our systems. However, please note that complete deletion may not be immediate from all storage, especially for data in backups, and we may retain certain information for specific reasons:
- Legal and Financial Records:We are required to keep certain data for legal compliance or legitimate business purposes even after deletion of an account. This retained data is limited to what is necessary or mandated by law. We safeguard any such retained information and restrict access to it.
- Dispute Resolution:If you have an unresolved issue or dispute, or if we reasonably believe there is a potential for a legal claim relating to your use of Connectee, we might retain the relevant information until the issue is resolved.
- Backup Storage:Our system likely includes routine backups. Data deleted from our live database might still exist in encrypted backups for a certain period until those backups are rotated out. We maintain backups purely for disaster recovery purposes, and access to them is highly restricted. Eventually, backup data is overwritten or deleted according to our retention schedule.
In summary, if you delete your account or request erasure, we will delete your personal data from the active system and only keep limited information as necessary. Any data we retain will continue to be protected under this Privacy Policy. We will not use retained data for any new purposes; it would only be held to the extent required.
For users who do not log in or use the account for extended periods, we may also contact you to ask if you want to maintain your account. If the account remains inactive, we might eventually deactivate or delete it after a prolonged period, in line with our data minimization practices, but we will try to notify you via your registered email before taking such action.
- How We Protect Your Data
Your Rights Under GDPR
Here are your data protection rights:
- Right to Access:You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. This is often called a “data subject access request.” We will provide you with a readable copy of your data, typically electronically. This is provided free of charge (unless the requests are excessive or repetitive, in which case the law allows a reasonable fee or refusal). We aim to respond within one month of verifying your request but might extend that period if the complexity of the request calls for it.
- Right to Rectification:If any of your personal data is inaccurate or incomplete, you have the right to have it corrected or updated. You can update most of this in your account settings. If you need assistance, just contact us and we will fix it. We want to make sure your data is correct and up to date.
- Right to Erasure:This is also known as the “right to be forgotten.” You can ask us to delete your personal data. In practice, this can be done by deleting your account in the settings, or you can ask us to do it for you. We will erase the personal data we have about you, with the important exception of data we are required to keep for legal or legitimate purposes. If we must retain some information, we will inform you. Otherwise, we will comply with the deletion request and confirm to you when it’s done. Keep in mind that after deletion, you will lose access to Connectee services with that account and this action is generally irreversible.
- Right to Restrict Processing:You have the right to request that we limit the processing of your data in certain circumstances. This means we would store your data but not actively use it until the restriction is lifted. You might exercise this right if you contest the accuracy of the data or have objected to processing and are awaiting verification or resolution, or if processing is unlawful and you prefer restriction over deletion.
- Right to Object:You have the right to object to our processing of your personal data when that processing is based on legitimate interests or public interest, or if we were doing it for direct marketing. This means if we are processing your data under a legitimate interest basis, you can send us an objection stating the specific situation, and we will stop unless we have compelling legitimate grounds to continue that override your rights, or if it’s needed for legal claims.
- Right to Data Portability:You have the right to obtain the personal data you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format, and you have the right to have that data transmitted to another controller where technically feasible.
- Right to Withdraw Consent:Where we rely on your consent to process your personal data, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we did before your withdrawal. If you withdraw consent for a particular feature or service, we will stop the processing that was based on consent.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint:We genuinely hope to resolve any privacy questions or concerns you have directly. But if you believe we have not complied with our obligations under privacy laws, you have the right to file a complaint with a supervisory authority (a competent data protection authority). In any case, we would appreciate the chance to address your concerns first, so please consider reaching out to us with any issue. We are committed to protecting your rights and will do our best to resolve any problems.
To exercise any of these rights, you can contact us at [email protected].
For security, we may need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests. We will respond to your request as soon as possible, and no later than one month from receiving it (an extension is possible under the law for complex requests, but we’ll keep you updated if that’s the case).
There is no fee for making a request regarding your rights, unless it’s a repeated or excessive request as defined by GDPR, in which case we might charge a reasonable fee or refuse.
Third-Party Links and Sites
Throughout our platform or communications, we may provide links to third-party websites or services. Please be aware that this Privacy Policy does not apply to any website or service that is not operated by Connectee. If you click on a link and leave our platform (or engage with a third-party service), their privacy practices will govern any information you provide to them. We have no control over and are not responsible for the content or data practices of external sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party sites or services before providing your information to them.
Tutor’s Responsibilities for Student Data
As noted in the introduction, Tutors act as independent data controllers for the student/parent personal data they obtain via Connectee. We want to clearly lay out what that means in practice, to ensure student data is handled properly by everyone:
- Using Data Only for Tutoring:If you are a Tutor, you should use the personal information about a student or parent exclusively for the purposes of providing tutoring services to that student. You should not use that information for any other purpose outside of tutoring.
- Keep Data Confidential and Secure:Do not share a student’s personal information with anyone else unless necessary for the lesson and previously agreed upon. Protect any records you keep. If you keep digital notes, consider storing them in a secure, encrypted manner. If you have physical notes with student information, keep them in a safe place.
- Delete Data When No Longer Needed:You should not keep personal data about students longer than necessary. If a student has stopped lessons with you and there is no foreseeable need to retain their information, it’s good practice to delete it. If a parent or student specifically asks you to delete any data you have of theirs, you should comply (unless you have an overriding legal ground for processing). If you are not sure whether you should keep something, err on the side of not keeping sensitive data longer than required.
- Account Security:As a tutor, you may occasionally download or receive student work or data. It’s your responsibility to ensure your devices and accounts that store such data are secure (use strong passwords, don’t share your login, enable two-factor authentication if available, etc.). This aligns with Connectee’s own security efforts: we can protect data on our side, but once you have it, you need to protect it on your side too. If you ever suspect that a student’s data you hold has been compromised, inform the parent/student and Connectee so appropriate measures can be taken. Under the GDPR, data breach notifications may be required, and we can assist in that process if needed.
- Compliance with Laws:By using Connectee as a Tutor, you agreed to follow applicable data protection laws, such as the GDPR. This means everything stated above isn’t just policy, but a legal requirement. If you have students from different jurisdictions, be mindful of any local privacy laws that might apply as well. When in doubt, treating student data with strict confidentiality and care is the way to go.
If you need any guidance on privacy as a tutor, reach out to us – we’re happy to help clarify how you can comply with these expectations.
